Our History
Our Story
Sweet Dreams Home Furnishings was founded in 1994 by Cathy and Marcus Headley. Cathy is a Maine native and graduate of Morse High School in Bath. Marcus is originally from the UK but chose to make Maine his home in his late 20's. The business began in the Cook's Corner Mall with just 1,500 square feet of showroom space. Through Cathy's passion and determination, along with the support of her husband and her parents Judy and Bud Mitchell, the business steadily grew.
By 1997, Sweet Dreams had expanded into the adjoining space, doubling the size of the showroom to better serve the community. Local families embraced the growing selection of quality furniture, fair pricing, and the friendly, down-to-earth service that continues to define Sweet Dreams today.
As a family-owned business, we remain committed to helping our customers create comfortable, beautiful homes while providing the personalized service that has been our foundation from the very beginning.
GROWING TOGETHER
In 1999 and 2000, the Sweet Dreams family grew when Cathy's brother, David Mitchell, and his wife, Catherine, joined the business. Around the same time, construction began on the Sweet Dreams store that customers know today.
The building was truly a family effort. Despite the challenges that come with any major project, the store was envisioned, designed, and largely built by family members. Bud, David, and Marcus (shown in image on the right) completed much of the construction themselves, creating a space that reflects the hard work and values on which the business was founded.
During this period, Sweet Dreams was also awarded a contract to operate a U.S. Contract Postal Unit, providing postal services to the local community from within the store. That partnership continues today, allowing us to serve our neighbors in more ways than one.
More than three decades after opening our doors, we are grateful for the trust and support of generations of customers. We remain committed to providing quality furnishings, exceptional service, and a welcoming experience for Maine families for years to come.
